Account Types: Cent, Standard, and Which Fits a Beginner
Risk warning: The wrong account type can magnify losses. This is education, not financial advice. Start small.
Brokers offer several account types. The names sound similar. The risk is not.
The three main types
Cent account
- Balance shows in cents. $10 looks like 1,000 cents.
- Lot sizes are tiny. One pip is about $0.01 (about ₦15).
- Best for learning with real prices but very small risk.
Standard account
- Balance shows in dollars. Lots are normal size.
- One pip on a standard lot is about $10 (about ₦15,000 / ~$10).
- One bad trade can wipe a small account. Not for beginners.
ECN account
- Often has lower spread (the small cost inside the price) but may charge a commission.
- Needs higher skill and larger balance.
Which fits a Nigerian beginner?
Start with a Cent account:
- Fund ₦15,000 / ~$10 via GTBank, Access Bank, or USDT on Binance P2P.
- Trade micro or cent lots only.
- Practise 2 weeks on demo, then 2 weeks on cent live.
Check the broker's page for exact names — some call it "Cent", others "Micro" or "Standard Cent". If you are unsure, ask support: "Is this balance shown in cents?"

Rate used: ~₦1,500 / $1. Small amounts like ₦150 use same rate.
Bottom line: Start with a Cent account and micro lots with ₦15,000 / ~$10, avoid Standard lots, or you risk one pip costing you house money. Links To Guides: Pillar 1 (Broker), Pillar 3 (Beginner Setup).
