Trading Sessions and WAT: When Nigerians Should Trade

Risk warning: Busy hours mean bigger moves and bigger risk. This is education, not financial advice.

Forex runs 24 hours, 5 days. But not all hours are equal. Trade when the market is busy.

Sessions in WAT

  • Sydney ~9pm–6am WAT — quiet.
  • Tokyo ~12am–9am WAT — quiet for EUR/USD.
  • London ~8am–5pm WAT — busy. Best for EUR/USD, GBP/USD.
  • New York ~1pm–10pm WAT — busy. Overlap with London 1pm–5pm WAT is the busiest.

For traders in Lagos and Abuja with a small ₦15,000 / ~$10 account, the best window is often 8am–10pm WAT, with the core 1pm–5pm WAT overlap.

What this means for Nigerians

  • If you work 9–5, focus on evening New York (6pm–10pm WAT) — still active.
  • Avoid trading quiet Sydney hours if you are new — moves are choppy and costs hurt more.
  • Check news at 1:30pm WAT (US data) — spikes can hit stops. See What Makes the Market Move.

Use a demo to test hours. See How to Use a Demo Account and detailed guide Best Time to Trade from Lagos: WAT Sessions.

Rate used: ~₦1,500 / $1. Small amounts like ₦150 use same rate.

Bottom line: Trade London 8am–5pm and 1pm–5pm WAT overlap, avoid Sydney quiet, or you risk thin moves that still cut you. Links To Guides: Pillar 3 (Beginner Setup).
