Exness vs Octa: Which Broker Fits Nigerian Beginners?

Risk warning: This is a neutral compare for learning. It is not financial advice. KoboFX does not tell you to use any broker. Forex is risky. You can lose your money.

Many Nigerians ask: Exness or Octa? Both are often discussed in Lagos and Abuja groups. This page compares them side by side so you can decide for yourself.

Quick answer

  • If you want many account types and flexible lot sizes, many beginners start by looking at Exness.
  • If you want a very low first deposit and simple Naira options, many beginners start by looking at Octa.

Both need the same checks before you pay. Read Regulation: Why a License Protects Your Naira first.

How to compare (use this checklist)

Before you compare any two brokers, check:

  1. Do they show a real licence number (FCA, CySEC, or similar)?
  2. Can you verify that number on the regulator's website?
  3. Do they support funding from Nigeria (GTBank, Access Bank, USDT on Binance P2P, Skrill/Neteller)?
  4. Is the minimum deposit clear in both $ and ₦?
  5. Do they offer a free demo and a Cent account?

For steps to check a licence, see How to Verify a Broker's Regulation.

Licence and safety

Both brokers say they hold overseas licences. Do not trust the logo alone.

  • Open the broker's "Regulation" page.
  • Copy the licence number.
  • Search it on the regulator's site and confirm the company name matches exactly.

If a page shows no number, or the number does not match, stop. Read Unregulated Broker Scams: How Nigerians Lose Money.

Money in and out

Nigerian traders usually fund with:

  • GTBank or Access Bank transfer
  • USDT bought on Binance P2P (then sent to the broker)
  • Skrill or Neteller

Note: some Nigerian banks may block transfers to forex brokers. That is why many traders use USDT on Binance P2P instead. See How to Deposit from GTBank and Access Bank.

Test a small withdrawal early. If a broker delays your first small withdrawal, treat it as a warning. See Withdrawal Problems: Why Your Profit May Stay Stuck.

App and learning

Both work with MT4 and MT5. Try a demo for two weeks before you use real naira. Start on a Cent account so one mistake costs very little.

Which should you pick?

Do not pick from an ad. Pick from your checklist:

  • If you value many account types to grow into, look closer at Exness.
  • If you value the lowest start amount and local support, look closer at Octa.
  • In both cases, verify the licence, fund a small test amount (for example ₦15,000 / ~$10), and test a withdrawal.

Then go back to the Complete Guide to Choosing a Forex Broker in Nigeria (2026) for the full steps.

Rate used: ~₦1,500 / $1. Small amounts like ₦150 use same rate.

Bottom line: Compare Exness and Octa by licence, fees and Naira methods, test small, or you risk picking hype over safety. Cross-links to School: 02.1 What Is a Broker, 02.2 Regulation.
