Forex Recovery Scam: The Second Trap After You Lose
Risk warning: Recovery agents cannot refund a broker loss, and a fee-first promise is a second scam. This is education, not financial advice.
A recovery agent works like the first scam, with fresh clothes. You lost money to a signal group or a fake broker. Then a “recovery specialist” appears on WhatsApp or Instagram, shows refund screenshots, and asks for an upfront fee. You pay $13 “to open the case”, and the agent disappears.
You just lost money. You feel pain and shame. You post one sad comment: “I lost money too.” Ten minutes later an angel texts you. It is not an angel. It is scammer number two, standing in line behind scammer number one.
That is the second trap. This article shows how it works and how to push the seller away.
Demo example — not a signal. Check any recovery pitch against the red flags before you send any money.
How the second trap works
1. They find the wounded
Recovery agents watch scam-related comments on TikTok, Instagram, and Telegram. Your comment "I lost money too" is an invitation. Some even buy lists of people who already paid a signal seller.
2. They promise the impossible
The pitch claims a "licensed recovery firm", a "forensic team", or a "fraud agency contact". They share screenshots of past refunds you cannot verify. They never show a company registration or a real office.
They speak softly. They say you were cheated and they will help. You feel hope again.
3. They charge a fee first
The fee comes before any work. Common numbers are $10 to "open the case", $33 for a "legal filing", and another payment for "tax on your refund". The refund never arrives.
You paid half the road, so you pay again. Each fee is a new loss.
4. They vanish or ask again
After payment, the agent blocks you, changes name, or asks for one more fee because "the bank needs clearance". Every new fee is a new loss. This is the same script as Signal Seller Scams, played a second time.
The pitch formulas
- "We recovered $1,600 for a client last week" — the proof is a screenshot, not a document.
- "The broker returned the funds, we only need a processing fee" — no broker sends funds through a stranger.
- "I have an officer inside the fraud agency" — real officers do not message victims on WhatsApp.
- "Pay in USDT, faster and untraceable" — untraceable is the point. Never send USDT to a recovery agent.
Red flags of recovery agents
- Fee before result. Real services bill after the work, and rarely bill victims.
- Personal account. A company recovery takes company details, not a personal bank account.
- Pressure and deadlines. "The case closes Friday" is a sales trick.
- Secrecy. They refuse a real meeting, a phone call, or a written contract.
- Too much emotion. They repeat that you were cheated, so you pay to feel safe.
Two flags — end the chat. For the first trap's full list, see Unregulated Broker Scams.
What to do instead
- Stop paying. Paying a fee does not create a refund.
- Report once, officially. The police cybercrime unit in your country takes reports online. Keep your transaction IDs and screenshots.
- Secure your accounts. Change passwords and turn on 2FA before anyone uses your details. See Protect Your Account.
- Learn again, tiny. A $10 Cent account with 1% risk beats paying any agent. See The 1% Rule.
If an agent already phoned you
Act like the scam started again.
- Refuse every new fee. "Clearance" and "tax" fees are fiction.
- Save the contact. Agent name, account number, wallet address, chat history.
- Report to the police cybercrime unit with the saved proof.
- Restart on demo. Twenty logged trades rebuild skill faster than chasing refunds. See How to Use a Demo Account and Why Most Beginners Lose.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can anyone really recover money lost to a forex scam?
Almost never. Legitimate recovery happens through formal law enforcement channels, not through WhatsApp agents who ask for an upfront fee. Anyone who charges a fee first is running the same trick again.
Why do recovery agents ask for an upfront fee?
Because the fee is their business model. They collect it, then disappear or ask for a second one. Real authorities do not bill victims for each processing step.
Is paying a recovery agent a crime?
Paying is not a crime, but it funds fraud. Ask for a full name, a verifiable employer, and an on-record result before spending anything. Then check the story with someone you trust.
What should I do if I already paid one?
Stop paying immediately and keep every receipt and chat. Report to the police cybercrime unit and document everything. Then rebuild on demo with 1% risk, never on a new fee.
